Breaking Bread Without Breaking Progress: How to stay on track while traveling

Updated: Jul 3, 2022

It is definitely a difficult task these days to get all six of my family members together in the same city at once. As everyone gets older, exploring new opportunities and creating new experiences, we often find ourselves spread out throughout the country and even the world.

This summer, the stars aligned so perfectly for our family that we couldn’t deny the opportunity in front of us. It was a gift from God to pull us all together in this Special Moment in Time, so we couldn’t let this pass us by. When would we all be able to be right here with all of our hectic schedules and everyday life circumstances? The time was here.

Excited to go to the country filled with pasta, pizza, cannolis and gelato, we all planned our schedules, packed our bags and flew 10 hours to start our adventure.

Now, I am not one to deprive myself of the indulgences that are so necessary on vacation (shhh don’t tell), but I also practice what I preach to my clients in terms of fitness and nutrition. No matter whether I am at home or vacationing, I truly believe that consistency and mindfulness are most important.

A typical day on our Italian adventure consisted of a whole lot of pizza, pasta, wine, walking, sightseeing, food, food, food, wine, wine, wine…… and the cycle just repeated. The main key to all of this was WALKING and MEAL MODERATION.

We walked everywhere all day long. We never stopped moving, which kept our bodies burning calories throughout the day. We also didn’t eat extra large serving sizes, keeping our eating habits pretty normal. Most importantly, we ENJOYED the amazing Italian food this country had to offer.

We must all remember to just live, be present and continue to make the good decisions that you do at home. Try new foods, drink new wines, enjoy your time with loved ones and remember to make “better bad choices” (as I tell my clients and friends) all along the way.

I feel blessed that my whole crew got along beautifully for two weeks of traveling, and I truly believe we grew closer than any of us could have imagined, it was magical!!! The beautiful Italian landscapes, the amazing memories and the deep LOVE that my family shared is an undeniable gift from the Lord.

I encourage you to make the most of every moment in your life with the people that mean the most to you. Create new experiences, make new memories and love this amazing life that you’ve been given.

But also try to make a few healthy decisions along the way. You’ll feel amazing and be glad you did.

Ciao my loves!
